Emily is a Massachusetts girl, born and raised! Her territory encompasses Massachusetts and Connecticut, and a little bit of Vermont. Her dad’s side of the family is all in Massachusetts and her mom grew up in Connecticut, so they love finding out where she is each week and telling her stories about their old apartments and workplaces that are right around the corner.

Emily says she is lucky to have family and friends who share her love for nature, camping, and eating good food! She has driven across the U.S. several times with her family and camped at National Parks in 48 states. While she and her sister don’t have the time for long camping trips these days, they always manage to meet their parents for a few weekends of camping during the summer and plan trips of their own with friends. As a family, they always get together for Homecoming at UMass, where Emily, her sister, and her dad are all alumni. They also love pickling and making jam from green beans, grapes, blueberries, and raspberries that they pick, and making her mom’s signature strawberry rhubarb pie from her garden.

During her free time, Emily enjoys exploring her local state parks and conservation areas with her dog, Damian. She also enjoys having puppy playdates with her sister and friends after a great day at work. She and her friends enjoy trying new wineries and breweries to absorb the local flavor. When she is at home, Emily enjoys trying new recipes and doing projects around her house. She is currently refinishing her staircase and has a few gallons of paint ready to paint her porch!

How does working for Chemsearch FE align with your life goals?

As a territory manager, it was sometimes hard to see how the job of a sales rep gets easier. I had the opportunity to spend a day with an experienced rep in Pittsburgh, which helped to solidify how my business could grow, and how my life and interests outside of work could be aligned and supported. Equally important are the relationships I have developed with coworkers across the country, whom I can always count on for a laugh. I can see a long and happy future with Chemsearch FE, where every day in the field is different and exciting, and I have plenty of flexibility for having a family and traveling for fun outside of work.

Where were you (job or industry) before joining Chemsearch FE? Did you see yourself in a sales role?

I had recently graduated from UMass with a degree in natural resource conservation when I applied to Chemsearch FE and was working as a supervisor at a bus company. I did not see myself in sales, but since both my parents worked in sales training and consulting, and with my background in sustainability and green building practices, I thought Chemsearch FE would be a good fit. (I was right!)

What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment so far in your career with Chemsearch FE?

My biggest accomplishment besides being named Rookie of the Year with the great Brady, was a few months ago when I opened up accounts with a chain of over 40 nursing homes. All it took was a warm referral and a quick meeting in a Walmart parking lot. Now I have a ton of new customers to get to know!

What are the most rewarding parts of your job?

I find it the most rewarding when I identify a problem with a customer and we work together to find a solution. If it’s a BIO-Amp or drain product, it’s satisfying when they start seeing the results and say, “Wow, that really does work.” I love a skeptical customer who asks questions and challenges my product knowledge because we both get to learn what the best approach is for their facility and we both get the satisfaction of seeing their problems get solved.

What do you consider a fulfilling workday?

A fulfilling workday is when I see a variety of customers, and I get to demo new products with them. A great day is when I walk away with warm referrals because they think of other facilities that could use what I’ve shown them. The best days are when I get back to my car and I see that I have calls from customers because a challenge came up in their facility and they thought of me.

What is the best piece of advice you have received?

The best advice I have received came from Jim Conway when he told me “never get too high or too low.” We all have bad days or even bad weeks, and being in sales that’s the nature of the business. But you can’t rest on your successes or wallow in your disappointments. I find that sticking with my plan and keeping myself moving from one call to the next is the best way to ensure I’m walking into every call with a clean slate and a smile on my face.
